WORKPLACE INJURIES IN WESTERN MA

If you have been injured while working, you are entitled to file a workers’ compensation claim. Many injured workers are denied the benefits they deserve under Massachusetts’s workers’ compensation laws. When you are injured on the job you may undergo surgery, buy costly medicine, physical therapy, rehabilitation as well as other costly medical care. Do not suffer under these extensive medical expenses and earn the compensation you deserve for your workplace injury.

Some of the most common cases of workplace injury include:

  • Overexertion
  • Falls
  • Being struck by an object
  • Slip or trip
  • Struck against object
  • Caught or compressed by equipment or objects

Often times it is not the worker’s fault when they are injured while on the job. Some common causes of workplace injuries are often caused by unsafe work conditions, lack of breaks and improper training or qualifications.

Unsafe work conditions

Wet or oily surfaces, weather hazards, obstructed views, poor lighting, clutter or uneven walking surfaces are all unsafe work conditions and can lead to slips, trips or falls, which are one third of all workplace injuries. Head and back injuries, broken bones, cuts and lacerations, and strained or pulled muscles are all injuries that can be sustained due to unsafe work conditions.

Lack of breaks

Overexertion is the number-one cause of workplace injuries according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, costing businesses $15.1 billion in direct costs in 2012, as reported in the Liberty Mutual Research Institute for Safety’s 2014 Workplace Safety Index. It can be caused by repetitive motion such as typing, lifting heavy objects or working in an awkward position. Injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis, muscle strains, and inflammation can all occur from overexertion. These can be avoided with frequent breaks, proper training and by utilizing ergonomic workspaces.

Improper training or qualifications

Your job may not require you to do heavy lifting but even light loads with improper technique can cause injury such as back pain. Forklifts or other vehicles require special training and without training workers could be at risk for injury to themselves or to other employees.

If you have been injured on the job you have the right to file a workers’ compensation claim. These claims are complex and you can benefit by having an attorney to add value to your claim and help you file it. The amount of your claim will be determined by the facts and circumstances of your case.
